Using Blog as your Learning Portal

Using a Blog as an E Portfolio
It is called a “Learning Blog”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKVQKQxxUlk (a video right from the beginning)
Our Blogs need to have:
  • A naming convention - i.e. all have the same format within the URL space
  • Have the same pages/tabs
  • Have an intro or a purpose with the expectation.
  • Have a goal at the front of each page that may change in the term
  • Digital Citizenship taught alongside the introduction
We decided:

  • HOME page is for everyday learning and for all the photo Slide shows (NOT SCREEDS OF PHOTOS ADDED ONE BY ONE)
  • first name last initial r(room number
  • e.g. angelavcore.blogspot.com
  • The front page of the BLOG has the expectation and this page can be used as the weekly upload space for students work.
  • TL’s and Curriculum Leaders will meet to discuss what items will be included under each page per term.
  • Pages to include:
    • Home
    • Literacy (includes reading and writing)
    • Technology
    • Numeracy
    • P.E./Health
    • My Inquiry
    • The Arts
    • My Rubrics
    • Dream Big - (My goals)
  • Name of the BLOG is consistent with the three words NAME/LEARNING/BLOG but the students can decide in what order these are in
What are our expectations?
  • Updated daily/weekly
  • The intro spiel and goals at the start of each page
  • Rubrics completed daily and checked weekly by team teachers
  • Language used - IS ALL ABOUT THE LEARNING
  • The quality of content
  • teacher comment - team teachers take turns to check in once a week - students choose what they want commented on in the rubric.
  • student comment/reflection - have a buddy to comment on once a week
  • peer comment/assessment - built into weekly home learning programme

A front page example
“Hola,
Welcome to my Learning Site.
I have made this site so I can show you samples of my daily work, examples of some of my BEST work and comments and reflections about my learning.
This tool allows me to show my whanau, my teacher and my friends the learning I have been experiencing.
I will look to update each of the pages in all learning areas, a couple of times a year.  Weekly updates of my learning will appear on the ‘Home’ page and will include photos, links to Google Docs, samples of my learning and screen shots.
This is just for my learning not for my personal blog posts.
It would be much appreciated if you could please comment on my posts to help encourage me with my learning, give me feedback and offer advice for next steps.
Thanks for taking the time to look through my learning site - please come back often.

Nathan”
